Turchia Report 2010

Tra il 24 agosto e il 1 ottobre 2010 abbiamo effettuato una ricerca sulla migrazione dei rapaci in Turchia. Osservazioni contemporanee sono state svolte nel versante settentrionale del Bosforo (Toygar Tepe) e sullo Stretto dei Dardanelli. In quest'ultimo sito osservazioni sistematiche non erano mai state effettuate. Lo scopo della ricerca era confrontare il comportamento migratorio delle aquile con quello dei rapaci con ali relativamente più lunghe come i Falchi pecchiaioli, le albanelle e i Falconiformi.

Sono stati osservati più di 30.000 uccelli la maggior parte dei quali sul Bosforo, mentre attraverso lo Stretto dei Dardanelli sono migrati circa 1500 rapaci. Particolarmente impressionante, nel giorno di picco, il passaggio di gruppi enormi di Aquile anatraie minori (fino a 1000 insieme!). Fra le specie inusuali 2 giovani di Aquile di mare, 2 Grifoni, un Nibbio reale, alcuni individui di Aquila reale e Aquila imperiale orientale. Fra le altre specie di uccelli osservati moltissimi Gruccioni sullo Stretto dei Dardanelli, decine di pellicani e Gru, Spatole, aironi e moltissime cicogne.

Report Turkey 2010

We carried out a research on raptor migration in Turkey between 24 August and 1 October 2010. We made observations at the northern side of Bosphorus (Toygar Tepe) and at Dardanelles Strait's. In the latter site we investigated the migratory flow through an almost unknown bottleneck, where we used a watchpoint located in the European side of the Strait. Our aim was to compare the migratory behaviour of eagles and raptors with relatively longer wings like Honey Buzzards, falcons and harriers.

We observed more than 30.000 birds most of them at Bosphorus while at Dardanelles migrated about 1500 raptors. It was really impressive the passage of huge flocks of Lesser-spotted Eagles (up to 1000 together!) in late September. Among rare species we checked the passage of 2 individuals of White-tailed Eagles, 2 Griffon Vultures, 1 Red kite and some individuals of Golden Eagle and Eastern Imperial Eagle. Among other birds a lot of Bee-eaters at Dardanelles, tens of pelicans and Cranes, Spoonbills, herons and a lot of storks.
