RAPACI SVERNANTI

Nel corso dei tre inverni passati (2008/2009 - 2010/2011) abbiamo svolto indagini sullo svernamento dei rapaci in alcune aree selezionate del Mediterraneo. In particolare lo svernamento dei rapaci è stato studiato sull'isola di Creta (Grecia), in Sicilia, in Basilicata e nel Lazio. Durante queste ricerche sono stati raccolti dati interessanti sull'ecologia dei rapaci durante i mesi invernali. Il più alto numero di specie è stato registrato a Creta mentre le densità maggiori sono state osservate in Basilicata.

GRECIA 2009 / 2010

Nell'autunno 2009 e nella primavera 2010 abbiamo effettuato una ricerca sulla migrazione dei rapaci in Grecia. In particolare l'area indagata è stata quella del Monte Olimpo. Le osservazioni effettuate hanno mostrato l'importanza di questa rottta per la migrazione del Biancone, nel mese di marzo ne abbiamo contati circa 600 individui. Particolarmente interessante il comportamento migratorio delle aquile nel sito: infatti diversamente dalle altre specie di rapaci, i Bianconi migravano verso nord in autunno e verso sud in primavera! Questo per evitare una lunga traversata attraverso il Mediterraneo.

ANTICITERA 2007-2008

Per due anni consecutivi abbiamo studiato la migrazione dei rapaci sull'isola di Anticitera situata fra Creta e il Peloponneso. Sono state comparate la migrazione primaverile e quella autunnale e particolare attenzione è stata data alla migrazione del falco pecchiaiolo.

PROGETTO RAPACI MIGRATORI

Primavere 2006-2010

Ormai già da diversi anni la LIPU/BirdLife coordina il Progetto Rapaci Migratori. MEDRAPTORS ha collaborato svolgendo, in particolare, osservazioni sulle isole di Panarea, Marettimo e Ustica.

RADAR / STRETTO DI MESSINA

Tra marzo e maggio 2006 MEDRAPTORS ha collaborato allo studio sulla migrazione sullo Stretto di Messina svolto mediante radar dall' Istituto Ornitologico Svizzero . E' la prima volta che viene svolto uno studio sulla migrazione dei rapaci in Italia utilizzando questo metodo di indagine

WINTERING RAPTORS

During the past three winters (2008/2009 - 2010/2011) we investigated the ecology of raptors in four areas of the Mediterranean: the island of Crete (Greece), Sicily and Basilicata (Southern Italy) and Latiumn (Central Italy). During these fieldworks a lot of interesting data were collected, concerning both ecology and distribution of raptors in those areas. The higher number of species were recorded in Crete while the higher density of raptors occurred in Basilicata.

GREECE 2009 / 2010

During Autumn 2009 and Spring 2010 we carried out a fieldwork in Greece. In particular our aim was to investigate raptor migration at Mount Olympus. In that site informations concerning the passage of raptors were lacking. Our results show the importance of that flyway for Short-toed Eagles belonging to the population of central and southern Greece. During March we counted about 600 migrating eagles. Moreover it was interesting their migratory behavior: in fact unexpectedly eagles migrated toward North in Autumn and South in Spring! That's because they migrate towards Bosphorus avoiding a long water crossing through the Mediterranean.

ANTIKYTHIRA 2007-2008

In 2007 and 2008 we studied raptor migration ath the island of Antikythira located 30 Km North of Crete. We compared Autumn and Spring migration at the site and our interested was focused in particular on Honey buzzard.

MIGRATING RAPTORS PROJECT

2006-2010

Some years ago LIPU/BirdLife started with the “Migrating Raptors Project”. MEDRAPTORS collaborated making observations in the islands of Marettimo, Panarea and Ustica.

RADAR / STRAITS OF MESSINA

During the period march-may 2006 MEDRAPTORS joined the Swiss Ornithological Institute in their radar study on bird migration across the Straits of Messina. It was the first time that this kind of study was carried out in Italy.
